Life in a city and the countryside

There are many difference between the living conditions of people in a city and in the countryside. Life in the countryside seems to offer much closeness to Nature and among people, but to me, living in a city is obviously more colorful and fulfilling.

In a city, one can usually find many interesting places such as museums and parks to go and see, while in the countryside the places one can go to are limited. Another major differences are that of going to school. A city usually has many good schools, where teachers are of high level and teaching facilities are advanced, which in turn can train high-level students. But in the countryside, teaching conditions are low so that the number of students who can go to college is small. An equally important contrast is the variation of shopping facilities. In a city anyone can shop around until they buy what they are satisfied. For examplae, if you want to buy an overcoat, there are many shopping centers you can go to where you can select and bargain. In the countryside, as there are much fewer shopping facilities, people do not have the choice in the first place.

On the whole, life in a city has many advantage over that in the countryside.

City Life and Country Life

There's a great difference between city life and country life in population. Big cities are so crowded, while in the countryside, there are much fewer people.

People in big cities are nice, friendly and helpful. They are polite to strangers. When you get lost, they are willing to show you the right directions. When you're hurt in an accident, they're also eager to send you to hospital at once. However, citizens don't know each other so well, because most of them are busy with earning their bread. While in the countryside, things are much more different. Almost everyone is so familiar with each other. They always say hello to each other on the way. Even though you are strangers, they also talk to you like old friends. And they are also happy to invite you to dinner in their homes.

Maybe most people like the big cities, because of the good living conditions. But I prefer to live in the countryside, for it's much quieter and more peaceful. In the morning, I can lie in the bed, listening to the birds singing. It seems like a free concert, which can bring me a happy mood. Moreover, I can meet different kinds of people outside. When I greet to them and smile to them, they also do the same to me. It's just a simple life, but the feeling is so great.

The quiet life of the country ahs never appealed to me. City born and city bred. I have always regarded the country as something you look at through a train window, or something you occasional visit during the weekend. Most of my friends live in the city, yet they always go into raptures at the mere mention of the country. Though they extol the virtues of the peaceful life, only one of hem has ever gone to live in the country and he was back in town within six months. Even he still lives under the illusion that country life is somehow superior to town life. He is forever talking about the friendly people, the clean atmosphere, the closeness to nature and the gentle pace of living. Nothing can be compared, he maintains, with the first cockcrow, the twittering of birds at dawn, the sight of the rising sun glinting on the trees and pastures. This idyllic pastoral scene is only part of the picture. My friend fails to mention the long and friendless winter evenings in front of the TV -- virtually the only form of entertainment. He says nothing about the poor selection of goods in the shops, or about those unfortunate people who have to travel from the country to the city every day to get to work. Why people are prepared to tolerate a four-hour journey each day for the dubious privilege of living in the country is beyond me. They could be saved so much misery and expense if they chose to live in the city where they rightly belong. If you can do without the few pastoral pleasures of the country, you will find the city can provide you with the best that life can offer. You never have to travel miles to see your friends. They invariably lie nearby and are always available for an informal chat or an evening's entertainment. Some of my acquaintances in the country come up to town once or twice a year to visit the theatre as a special treat. For them this is a major operation which involves considerable planning. As the play draws to its close, they wonder whether they will ever catch that last train home. The cit dweller never experiences anxieties of this sort. The latest exhibitions, films, or plays are only a short bus ride away. Shopping, too, is always a pleasure. The latest exhibitions, films, or plays are only a short bus ride away. Shopping, too, is always a pleasure. There is so much variety that you never have to make do with second best. Country people run wild when they go shopping in the city and stagger home loaded with as many of the exotic items as they can carry. Nor is the city without its moments of beauty. There is something comforting about the warm glow shed by advertisements on cold wet winter nights. Few things could be more impressive than the peace that descends on deserted city streets at weekends when the thousands that travel to work every day are tucked away in their homes in the country. It has always been a mystery to me who city dwellers, who appreciate all these things, obstinately pretend that they would prefer to live in the country.

I live in the city. I am overwhelmed by the sounds and the fast paced life of the city. You don't know anyone's name you don't smile or say hello. It is impersonal and isolating。

In contrast we are going to be moving to the country for my husband's retirement here in a few years so we have been spending time in rural settings attempting to determine where we want to go. The problem is that every place we stay for a while we say is 'the place.' We have some common observations for those small town rural places。 The people are friendly, alive, interactive. The environment is more natural and beautiful and peaceful and calm. The quiet is refreshing and soothing. The feeling of being in a community is overwhelming as a visitor but I am sure lovely if you stay. The benefits to city life are the activities and the opportunities and the excitement. I would like to live country rural with the city a few hours away so that we can take advantage of the cuisine, the entertainment, the fun, and life in the peace and quiet and the slower pace.。

It is really hard to say which is better than the other, city life or rural life, because each has its merits and shortcomings.

Living in a city, people have certain advantages. First, people enjoy various entertainments, both foreign and domestic. Second, there are more cultural activities in a city. Third, city dwellers(居民) gain access to better information service and educational facilities. However, problems exist. The overcrowded population, traffic jam, housing problem, industrial pollution and other issues may result in depression, nervousness and diseases. laving in the country, people can enjoy living in pure nature. They lead a simple and trouble free life. But rural life may not be that perfect. People usually lack cultural activities. They are relatively ill informed Things go fairly slowly there. And people miss some golden opportunities of making a fortune. The chances of their children being admitted to colleges are slim(不多).

Obviously, whatever life they lead, people can never feel perfectly satisfied, for conveniences and inconveniences always coexist (共存). People wish that they could enjoy the pleasures of both lives. With the rapid economic development, nowadays city dwellers can relax themselves in the country during vacation; and country
